French Trains

You can use the TGV or SNCF to travel to many of the resorts, however there isn't a train station at every resort. Bourg-St-Maurice and Moutiers are the main ski stations. For passengers arriving in Paris Gare du Nord by Eurostar from London St Pancras SNCF trains will take you onwards to stations in the Alps close to the main ski resorts. Trains departing Paris bound for the Alps region depart from Gare du Lyon and the adjacent Gare du Austerlitz.  It is recommnded to take an early moring Eurostar to Paris which arrives around midday noting you need to allow minimum 1 hour to transfer across Paris by taxi or Metro.  Onward TGV services are fast comfortable and very reliable.  Most TGV services have buffet cars where you can buy food and drinks.  The resort hubs are Annecy for La Clusaz and other resorts in the Aravis area.  Moutiers is the station for the Three Valleys resorts of Meribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens and the end of the line Bourg St Maurice is where you alight for Val d'Isere, Tignes, St. Foy and Les Arcs.  TGV trains leaving Paris early afternoon arrive early evening.  For passengers wishing to arrive in the resort early morning there are couchette ( sleeper ) trains departing from Paris late evening. 2nd class couchettes have 6 birth bunk beds in a closed compartment and 1st class couchettes are 4 birth.  Please note sleeper trains services do not have buffet cars so you must take along food and drinks.
